A crown is a restoration that is placed on a tooth that for whatever reason has lost a significant portion of it’s structure. Crowns can be manufactured from a wide array of types of materials which generally fall into one of the following groups full porcelain crowns, resin crowns, porcelain fused to metal crowns, and full gold crowns. Each has it’s own advantages and disadvantages, our doctors can explain these to you.

The process of making a crown involves a number of steps and usually two appointments for the patient.  The first appointment involves the numbing of the tooth and it’s preparation.  Once the tooth is prepared an impression is taken and a temporary crown is placed on the tooth.  At this point the appointment is finished and the patient is free to go.  For the lab this is where the work starts,  for the next two weeks they will go through a process of stages to fabricate the crown from that impression.  The completed work is sent back to the office and after necessary checks and adjustments it is cemented onto the tooth.
