Dental Crowns
A crown (cap) is a restoration that is placed on a tooth that has lost a significant portion of it’s structure. There are many different types of crowns including full porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, and full gold crowns. Each has it’s own advantages and disadvantages, our doctors can explain these to you.
The process of making a crown involves many steps and usually two appointments for the patient. The first appointment involves the numbing of the tooth and it’s preparation. Once the tooth is prepared an impression is taken and a temporary crown is placed on the tooth. At this point the appointment is finished and the patient is free to go. For the lab this is where the work starts, for the next two weeks they will go through a process of stages to fabricate the crown from that impression. The completed work is sent back to the office and after necessary checks and adjustments it is cemented onto the tooth.
